Streisand sings ‘The Way We Were’ at Academy Awards

Barbra Streisand sang “The Way We Were” on stage at tonight’s Academy Awards ceremony as a tribute to late composer Marvin Hamlisch.

Barbra belted out the number just after the awards’ In Memoriam segment.

The title track to Streisand’s 1973 film with Robert Redford won Hamlisch an Oscar as Best Original Song. The film also won the late composer an Oscar for Best Original Score and Streisand was nominated as Best Actress for the movie. The tunesmith also won a Grammy for “The Way We Were” tune, and the soundtrack was a hit on the Billboard charts.

Hamlisch died in August.

Meanwhile, “Beasts of the Southern Wild” star Quvenzhane Wallis was named as the star of an upcoming film version of “Annie” for Sony and producers including Will and Jada Pinkett Smith and “Jay Z.”
