‘Chicago’ producer Marty Richards: glaring snub in Oscar’s Memoriam segment

Hollywood continues to steam over the Oscars’ annual In Memoriam tribute even more than over Seth MacFarlane’s debatable comedy routines. Insiders have complained that Phyllis Diller, Larry Hagman and Andy Griffith didn’t make the cut for the tribute. The Post’s Richard Johnson reports that another glaring omission being noted was that of Marty Richards, the Oscar-winning “Chicago” producer who died last year. Richards’ friends are blaming Oscars show producers Neil Meron and Craig Zadan, claiming that even though the cast of “Chicago” reunited Sunday — and Richards was up on the Oscar stage 10 years ago to accept the Best Picture award for the film — Meron and Zadan, who executive produced “Chicago,” made sure there was no mention of Richards. “They always resented Marty getting all the attention,” said a source. Another added, “It’s annoying that everyone is talking about those two guys as ‘the producers’ when there were others who were a huge part of that film clearly.” Another “Chicago” executive producer, Meryl Poster, was also at the awards. Richards’ friends, meanwhile, will rectify the snub on April 8, when they will hold a tribute to the Bronx-born producer at the Edison Ballroom.
