Cruise in ‘major crisis mode,’ Holmes ‘dead set’ on keeping Suri

Legals eagles for Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have been trying to hammer out a settlement in the couple’s high profile divorce case, but custody of their daughter Suri, 6, has become the linchpin in any agreement.

According to US Weekly, Holmes is “dead set on keeping custody of Suri,” while Cruise is in “major crisis mode” and “on the phone with his lawyers 24/7” over the ongoing talks.

“Katie is not going to compromise on certain issues, all regarding Suri,” a source tells US.

Meanwhile, TMZ reports that a source close to Cruise says that the “Mission Impossible” star insists that any settlement gives him, “meaningful, significant contact with his daughter.'” The source further tells the Web site, “She is the primary concern in his life.”

TMZ says that legal teams for the splitting stars “have been meeting for hours a day,” including a full day on Saturday. “They are not just trying to hash out a temporary truce — these are settlement negotiations for the entire divorce,” TMZ reports.

The site says that the negotiations are “in flux,” however, and could break down, but that, for now, “no one is rushing to court.”

Yesterday, Holmes was spotted going to her lawyer’s Midtown office. She and Cruise were scheduled to face a Family Court judge on July 17 in New York, according to E! Online.

US adds that Holmes is concerned over her soon-to-be-ex’s commitment to Scientology and Suri’s involvement in it.

“During their nearly six-year marriage, Holmes became increasingly uncomfortable with the bizarre rules and restrictions of Scientology — particularly with respect with how to raise and educate her only child with Cruise,” the magazine reports, adding a source close to Holmes explained, “This is about protecting her daughter.”
