Top music producer Ron Fair is being tapped to take over as head of Virgin Records America. Veteran A&R exec Fair discovered Christina Aguilera, produced the Pussycat Dolls, has done A&R for the Black Eyed Peas and Fergie, and his recordings have won Grammys for artists including Aguilera, Mary J. Blige and Queen Latifah. Virgin Records was sold by Richard Branson to Thorn EMI in 1992. In 2001 it was merged with Capitol Records. A source tells us Fair, who was chairman at Geffen Records, “has a long track record of turning artists into superstars, and Virgin hopes he will be able to develop and break more talent.” A label rep didn’t get back to us.
