New Dan Brown book ‘Inferno’ coming in May

Good news for the cult of “The Da Vinci Code” — author Dan Brown has completed a new book in the wildly successful series, and it will be released on May 14.

Titled “Inferno,” the novel will feature the adventures of Harvard symbiologist Robert Langdon and will be set in Italy, like his previous hits, “The Da Vinci Code,” “The Lost Symbol” and “Angels & Demons.” But there will be some new themes, as the book will be centered around Dante’s “Inferno.”

“Although I studied Dante’s ‘Inferno’ as a student, it wasn’t until recently, while researching in Florence, that I came to appreciate the enduring influence of Dante’s work on the modern world,” Brown said in a statement on his Web site. “With this new novel, I am excited to take readers on a journey deep into this mysterious realm … a landscape of codes, symbols and more than a few secret passageways.”

His publisher, Doubleday, plans to release 4 million copies, and if his past success is any indication, it’s certain to be a hit: “The Da Vinci Code” sat atop the bestsellers list for more than a year after it was published in 2003, and the film starring Tom Hanks made $758 million worldwide.
