Gay NYC favorite Splash nightclub closing in August

It’s the end of an era for Splash nightclub — which has hosted stars from Liza Minnelli, Charo and Raquel Welch to Madonna, Katy Perry, Janet Jackson, Kim Kardashian, Kylie Minogue and Calvin Klein. The club will close Aug. 10, but while its bosses plan to “dismount the disco ball,” an online post said there will also be “10 magical farewell celebrations,” beginning Aug. 1. “For 22 years, it has been a privilege providing you with New York City’s most exciting, safe and spectacular gay venue,” read the farewell message from the Chelsea club’s owners. The bar had been described at its peak as having a “mix of muscle-baring bartenders, disco drama and frighteningly overendowed go-go boys.”
