Eliot Spitzer may have gotten more headlines lately, but his rival Comptroller candidate Scott Stringer clearly has the backing of showbiz A-listers. A fundraiser for the Manhattan borough president held Aug. 6 at the Maritime Hotel will be hosted by stars Lena Dunham, Scarlett Johannson and Bobby Cannavale, as well as a cast of hip New Yorkers. ScarJo’s previously hosted fundraisers for Stringer at The Plaza and Jane Ballroom. Dunham has tweeted support for the candidate, and Stringer spokesperson Audrey Gelman has starred on Dunham’s HBO show “Girls.” Others on the event’s host committee include hotelier Sean MacPherson, Curbed’s Lockhart Steele, jewelry designer Pamela Love and Harper’s Bazaar editor Laura Brown. Tickets for the fundraiser start at $50.
