Stars react to DOMA ruling, including a surprise marriage proposal

New York Gov. Cuomo and gal pal Sandra Lee at the Gay Pride parade in the city. Lee, overjoyed, wrote in a statement, “Freedom, liberty, justice, equality–for every one. Today, the Supreme Court has declared the Defense of Marriage Act unconsititutional. Prop 8, you’re next! As a citizen of the United States and a human being, I defend the right of every one–all ethnicities, every race, creed and gender to live a full life, free of prejudice of any kind.” (Page Six)

Many stars let their rainbow flags fly in reaction to the Supreme Court striking down the Defense of Marriage Act today.

Many couples will finally be able to tie the knot, including Kristen Bell, 32, and Dax Shepard, 38, who have been engaged since 2009 but decided they wouldn’t get married until gay Americans were given the right to get married.

Bell – who recently welcomed baby daughter Lincoln in March – tweeted at her beau, “@daxshepard1 will you marry me? Xo #marriageequality #loveislove”

The actor jubilantly tweeted back, “DOMA is dead. Prop 8 is dead. Now let’s bring my big, gay marriage to @IMKristenBell to Life!!!!”

Will Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie finally walk down the aisle next? Like Bell and Sheperd, Brangelina have said that they would only tie the knot when gay Americans were given the right to get married.

Leonardo DiCaprio, Ben Affleck, and many more stars enthusiastically to the news. Madonna told Page Six in a statement, “What a way to start my day!! I’m wearing a smile from ear to ear. There is a G-D! Justice is served. Hallelujah!!”
