The family of Jim Carrey‘s late girlfriend on Thursday entered into court evidence medical records they say prove the actor had multiple STDs in 2013.
Carrey has repeatedly denied passing the infections — which court papers name as Hepatitis A, chlamydia and oral and genital herpes — to on-again-off-again gal pal Cathriona White before her suicide.
White’s mother, Brigid Sweetman, had offered to drop her wrongful-death suit against the funnyman if he released the tests himself and they proved he was clean. He allegedly registered at a clinic under the alias “Jose Lopez” to get tested.
But Carrey balked and finally responded in court documents Tuesday saying White’s “estranged” family was just trying to “cash out” on her death, while denying he gave the Irish beauty any diseases.
“White would be horrified by the disclosure to the world of White’s medical history of sexually transmitted diseases and by the false allegations that she contracted the diseases from Carrey in 2013,” his lawyer wrote in the LA Superior Court filing.
While Thursday’s court submission remains under seal, the accompanying documents say Carrey “purposefully hid the results” from White, and is now in “a desperate effort to save his career and false persona.
“Carrey was continuing to hide his STDs from Ms. White and continued to place her health and safety at risk by having unprotected sex with her,” say the papers filed by Sweetman’s lawyer Michael Avenatti.
On Valentine’s Day, “instead of giving Ms. White flowers and chocolates, Carrey should have given her his STD results and the truth, and he should have refrained from having sex with her,” the filing says.
After questioning Carrey about her symptoms and meeting with categorical denial, White went to the doctor, leading Carrey to end the relationship, Avenatti writes.
“These documents show that Jim Carrey has lied to the media, the public and the court,” White’s mother Sweetman said in a statement. “Carrey has now been shown for what he is – a dishonest Hollywood celebrity who thinks he can say anything and fool people just because he is famous.”
“I am going to make sure that the world learns the truth about what Jim Carrey has done and the many lies he has told about my daughter, me and our family.”
Carrey’s attorney Martin Singer said, “These distortions and false statements by the attorney do a disservice to Cathriona’s memory and to the truth.”
