How a ‘Below Deck’ star survived a shipwreck on chips and rosé

“Below Deck” star Kate Chastain‘s yachting experience came in handy when she was shipwrecked.

“The speedboat I was on, we were on our way down to Turks and Caicos, just the captain, his friend and I, and the captain wanted to cut corners and get there quickly and he hit a coral reef and we were shipwrecked for three days on a desert island,” the Bravo star told Page Six.

Chastain — who works as the chief stew on Captain Lee Rosbach’s boat, Valor — has worked on several stocked yachts over her eight-year career in the field. And while she didn’t stop at the food store ahead of the doomed voyage, the sinking vessel was packed with some essentials.

“We had like two boxes of potato chips and, luckily, about four cases of Domaine Ott rosé wine, so actually it was like a mini-vacation,” she said.

But as the boat began to take on water, Chastain was forced to make some crucial wardrobe choices.

“I went down to my closet and I was like, ‘Leather jacket, you’re coming with me. Okay, Pucci dress, I can wear you out.’ I don’t know where I thought I was going, I was going to a desert island if I survived. But my first instinct was to grab my most treasured clothes,” Chastain explained.

While Chastain and the crew eventually were found, they had to keep the ordeal under wraps.

“[The captain’s] brothers came over on a boat from Miami and towed us back, ’cause he didn’t want to call the officials because he’d be in trouble for hitting the reef,” she said.

“Below Deck” airs Tuesday at 9 p.m. on Bravo.
