Mick Jagger’s new girlfriend, ballerina Melanie Hamrick, is in trouble with her bosses at American Ballet Theater because she called in sick when she went to visit the wrinkly rocker in Zurich, Switzerland, earlier this month.
No one in the dance company’s management knew the dark-haired 27-year-old ballerina was dating the 70-year-old Rolling Stone until photos of the couple on a hotel balcony went global.
“Calling in sick is a real no-no. It’s unprofessional,” said my dance world insider. “This is not going to help her career.”
Hamrick was performing in “Gisele” at Lincoln Center this week as a soloist, a step below principal dancer, but above “members of the company.”
The two met backstage at a Stones concert in Japan two weeks before Jagger’s longtime girlfriend L’Wren Scott committed suicide on March 17.
Hamrick is 43 years younger than Jagger, but likes older men. Her previous boyfriend was Cuban dancer José Carreño, 46.
Sources say Hamrick met Carreño as a teenage contestant in the Youth America Grand Prix.
“They were an item…until they broke off their engagement,” a source said. “He’s been married three times and wouldn’t marry her.”
Mick’s been married twice, but might be even more wedding-shy than Carreño.
Calls to ABT’s rep for comment were not returned by press time.
