The cast of Tony-nominated “After Midnight” gathered in costume at Broadway and 47th Thursday for a city celebration to rename the street Duke Ellington Way. (The show celebrates his Cotton Club years).
But Harvey Fierstein — playwright of Tony-nominated “Casa Valentina” — pointed out Ellington already has a street: Duke Ellington Boulevard uptown.
Duke’s granddaughter Mercedes responded, “You can never have too many streets named after you, or too many Tony awards!”
