‘Nothing surprises’ Michael Douglas anymore

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones showed a united front at the premiere of “And So It Goes” Sunday at Guild Hall of East Hampton.

Douglas plays a man whose granddaughter lives with him after his drug-addicted son is sent to prison.

When asked if his own experience with his son Cameron drew him to the film, Douglas said, “You read a script and you smile in those pieces…that come close to your story,” Douglas added. “I guess at this point in my life, at my age, you’ve gone through so many things that nothing really surprises you.”

Director Rob Reiner told us Douglas had the option to change the script, “But…he said just leave it the way it is. It obviously must have been tough for him.”

After introducing the film, Reiner (who plays piano in one scene) told us Diane Keaton, who sings in the movie, got nervous because she had to perform in front of Frankie Valli.

Reiner explained, “She had no idea he [Valli] was in the movie.

She says, ‘Why did you do that to me? You scared the hell out of me!’ And I said, don’t worry about it, I have to play piano in front of ‘Liberace’ over here.”

Those mingling at the Peggy Siegal Co. screening and party at Nick & Toni’s included Barbra Streisand and James Brolin, Martha Stewart, Bob Balaban, and promoter Ron Delsener, who was overheard praising Keaton’s singing and urging her to consider a run of live shows at Café Carlyle.
