Southern comfort: Royals party in Memphis

Princes Harry and William attended the wedding of their old friend from Eton, Guy Pelly, to hotel heiress Elizabeth Wilson in Memphis on Saturday.

Single-again Prince Harry escorted his cousins, Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice to the lavish wedding at the Memphis Hunt and Polo Club, which for security reasons was declared a “no fly zone” for the event which went on past 4 a.m.

Among the 200 guests at the wedding, for which Englishmen wore morning suits and Americans wore tuxedos, included the Earl and Countess of Pembroke. Charlie Gilkes, Oliver Ferry, Mimi van Wyck and Bronson van Wyck.

A source told us, “The princes could not have been more polite. They spoke with all the family members of the bride, they were warm and engaging with the staff, and offered their arms to ladies, etc. They acted like true Southern — or English — gentlemen. Harry acquired a flawless Southern accent and practiced it to the delight of the other guests. Far from chasing girls, Harry mostly hung with his mates and escorted his cousin, Princess Eugenie, while Prince William danced for 45 minutes straight.”

Memphis had earlier rolled out the welcome mat for its royal guests, who were given a private tour of Graceland followed by a pig roast at local barbecue joint, the Rendezvous.
