Fugees star heads to World Cup despite child support case

Fugees star Pras Michel may land himself in trouble for flying to Brazil for the World Cup — he’s due in Manhattan Family Court Thursday afternoon to face off against the mother of his 3-year-old son, Landon, who is seeking more than double the amount of child support.

Angela Severiano had a long-term relationship with the two-time Grammy-winning rapper, but the two broke up before she gave birth in March 2010. Severiano, a political consultant, hopes to boost her child support payments from Michel from the current $3,000 a month to $7,000.

In 2011, Severiano and Michel struck the deal for him to pay her $3,000 in child support to cover Landon’s expenses and care. But Severiano wants to increase the payments to cover Landon’s $2,500-a-month school fees and for them to move to a larger apartment than the one-bedroom where they now live.

Michel, 41, who recorded two albums with the Fugees and also scored success with his 1997 solo hit “Ghetto Superstar,” is now a film producer and consultant who worked with Barack Obama’s presidential campaign and helped get Haiti president Michel Martelly elected in 2011.

According to court documents seen by Page Six, Michel made more than $1 million last year, and spent $50,000 a month on rent alone for his two homes in Soho and Los Angeles. The documents claim Michel has missed several hearings during the proceedings, and has allegedly failed to fully disclose his income to the courts.

Severiano’s lawyer, Kenneth Sternberg, has subpoenaed Michel to appear as a witness at Thursday’s hearing. But according to postings on his Twitter feed, the singer-turned-political activist was heading to Brazil for the World Cup. He posted Facebook pictures of himself boarding a private jet with the caption, “#Flying #private here we come #Brazil #worldcup #worldcup2014.”

If Michel does not make the hearing, we’re told he could be held in contempt of court. Sternberg didn’t get back to us for comment. Reps for Michel had no comment.
