Mischa Barton could lose mansion to foreclosure

One-time ‘it girl’ (and one-time star of “The O.C.”), Mischa Barton’s career has pretty much hit the skids in recent years.

Now, TMZ is reporting she could lose her Beverly Hills mansion to foreclosure if she doesn’t cough up the $100,000 she owes in back mortgage payments.

According to TMZ, Barton has been handed a default notice informing her that she’s missed more than $100,000 in payments.

Barton bought the eight-bedroom, 11-bathroom pile for $6.4 million in 2005 (when “The O.C.” was a big deal), taking out a loan for $4.2 million.

The show went off air in 2007, and Barton’s been trying to sell the house since 2010. She last listed it for $8.9 million, but no takers.

Last year, she attempted to rent it out for the bargain price of $35,000 a month but, according to TMZ, that move appears to be way too little too late.

Barton’s career, of course, has not hit the same heights it did when she starred as Marissa Cooper on the popular drama.

Recently, she’s been acting in smaller projects, playing Ms. Monica in the television movie, “Gutsy Frog.” She has also been earning a buck by appearing at clubs around the US.
