Restauranter Greg Sherry seeks Wagyu beef from Japan

Carnivores rejoice! Greg Sherry, owner of Old Homestead Steakhouse — which attracts the likes of Justin Timberlake, Jessica Biel and Liam Neeson — is in Japan to buy the most expensive Wagyu beef in existence at an auction on Monday in the Gunma Prefecture.

“This is the first time a foreign restaurant owner from any country has ever been allowed to attend this exclusively Japanese auction,” a source told me.

The prized beef in question, which sells for $350 to $450 a pound, has never left Japan for export. But Sherry doesn’t plan on returning to his meatery empty-handed, especially since Zen-Noh Unico USA, one of the largest importers of Wagyu in general, arranged for him to participate at the auction.

Sherry plans to outbid everyone for at least one side of beef, which would be flown to New York and picked up by limousine.
