Kim and Kanye to marry at Italian fortress

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s upcoming nuptials will be more than a celebration of the couple’s love — they’ll also serve as a history lesson.

Kardashian, 33, and West, 36, who are set to tie the knot in Florence, Italy, on May 24, will exchange vows at the Forte di Belvedere o di San Giorgio Firenze, a spokeswoman at the Florence mayor’s office told the Associated Press on Friday.

The star-shaped fortress was built by Grand Duke Ferdinando I de’Medici in the 16th century to protect the city from attackers, but also houses an elegantly designed villa.

After five years of renovations, the Belvedere reopened in 2013. It boasts sweeping views and often serves as a venue for celebrated contemporary art exhibits.

The couple is said to be spending around $411,000 (300,000 euros) to rent the fortress for their big day. A Protestant minister will preside, spokeswoman Elisa Di Lupo told the AP.

But prior to saying “I do” at the picturesque location, guests will convene in Paris for a pre-wedding dinner.

A source tells People that West has spent “several days” in Florence this week and has met with Ermanno Scervino at the Italian designer’s atelier, fueling rumors that the rapper will wear Scervino to walk down the aisle.
