Reagan autobiography signed to his daughter selling for $12,500

A first edition of Ronald Reagan’s autobiography, “An American Life,” inscribed to his daughter Patti Davis nearly 25 years ago, is being sold off for $12,500.

The book, published Nov. 15, 1990, includes personal inscriptions by the former president that read: “Dear Patti Very Best Wishes & Love — Dad” and, “Ronald Reagan Nov. 1, 1990.”

It’s the latest in a string of Davis’ personal letters and archives from her father to hit the market.

Dealer Moments in Time told us that Davis initially sold the personalized copy of her dad’s book directly to another dealer.

“Since the mid-1980s . . . Patti has been selling her father’s letters to fund her lifestyle,” added a source. “The folks at his library are appalled.”

Davis previously shopped a letter that Reagan wrote her around the same time, objecting to her own 1992 memoir, “The Way I See It,” for which she reportedly got a $500,000 advance.

“I’ve heard and read statements by you about the biography you are working on and how you plan to explore what you say are the failures of your family,” Reagan wrote in the early 1990s letter that was bought by a private collector.

“You are hurting us — your parents — but you are hurting yourself even more.” And, “Please . . . don’t take away our memories of a daughter we truly love and who we miss.”

In her book, Davis accused Nancy Reagan of slapping her as a child and popping pills, while her dad called her “crazy and a liar.”

Reps for Davis and the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Library didn’t return requests for comment.
