Sherri Shepherd, Jenny McCarthy in tears over ‘View’ exit

Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy are officially out.

On Monday, after a short hiatus, “The View” returned and addressed the news that Shepherd, 47, and McCarthy, 41, will not be returning in the fall, according to video obtained by TMZ.

To ease the mood, McCarthy joked that headlines and rumors indicating so were false. “Actually, it is true,” she said after the crowd calmed down. “But I love the support.”

McCarthy went on to share that she’s thankful to have had the opportunity to work with Barbara Walters in her last year and that she’s taken a new position. “Upon consideration, I took a new job which allows me to do what I do best, which is talk without interrupting anyone.”

Perhaps in a bitter twist, McCarthy smirked as she said, “I love the fans that supported us, so stay tuned—even if it does compete with ‘The View.’”

As for Shepherd, who’s facing a nasty divorce battle and a possible custody issue, her delivery was somber as she confirmed her time on the talker is over. In fact, she’s been planning her exit since the spring. “I didn’t want to discuss anything in my personal life because I didn’t want to do anything to distract from Barbara Walters and her celebration in May,” she said.

The actress, with tears in her eyes, thanked everyone at the table and even a few hosts who’ve moved on. Shepherd says she based her decision to leave on the Bible, reports Us Weekly. “You guys know that I often talk about my faith,” she said. “I am a woman of faith and seven in the Bible is the number of God’s completion. And I’ve been here for seven years, and my time at ‘The View’ is complete.”

Whoopi Goldberg is the only co-host returning in the fall. Replacements for Walters, Shepherd and McCarthy have not been announced by ABC.
