John Lithgow, who is playing King Lear in the Public Theater’s Shakespeare in the Park, got a visit from Sam Waterson during a rehearsal Friday.
We’re told that “Law & Order” star Waterston, who played Lear in the Public Theater’s 2011 run, sneaked in and watched from a seat near the stage.
“He chatted briefly with John during a break before he slipped out again,” an insider tells us. “Sam has been doing shows at the Delacorte for decades, so he really knows the challenges of the summer heat during afternoon tech rehearsals leading up to first preview.”
The free production starts Tuesday and also stars Annette Bening, Jessica Hecht and Clarke Peters. It runs till Aug. 17.
