Fashion designer Cynthia Rowley has been ordered to stop work on her dream West Village townhouse after workers were injured during construction.
Rowley bought the three-story house on Morton Street for $11 million in May. The 4,500-square-foot, 25-foot-wide home features a garage and ceilings as high as 22 feet.
The original listing reportedly said the building holds several apartments but could be converted into a single-family residence.
Department of Buildings spokesman Alex Schnell said Rowley’s construction team has been slapped with two stop-work orders, one for failing to safeguard workers and one for not conforming to approved plans. Fines can reach thousands of dollars.
Other sources tell us a beam fell on workers last week and ambulances were called. One said, “Two workers were hurt badly. They were pulling on a wooden beam and it fell on them.”
Meanwhile, neighbors have complained about the construction noise and that their buildings were shaking.
A rep for Rowley — whose beautifully designed homes have appeared in Elle Decor — declined to comment.
