Lady Gaga performs with Tony Bennett at Montreal Jazz Festival

Lady Gaga surprised the crowd at the Montreal Jazz Festival last night by appearing on stage with Tony Bennett.

Bennett was a few songs into his set at the music festival when the 87-year-old crooner introduced his special and unannounced guest star, who wore a beaded white sequin gown with a white cape.

Gaga sang “Lush Life” as a solo, and Bennett told the crowd that she is “one of the best jazz singers I ever heard.”

An audience member tells us, “They sang a few duets together and some solos side by side. He sang ‘Sophisticated Lady’ to her and dedicated his song ‘The Good Life’ to ‘my good friend Lady Gaga.'”

Their new CD, “Cheek to Cheek,” will be released in September. Bennett urged the audience to buy it, “because she needs the money.”

He might have been joking, but Gaga recently admitted she was bankrupt in 2009 after spending $3 million to build a stage for her Monster’s Ball tour. Shortly after, Live Nation wrote her a check for $40 million, changing her financial situation for the better.
