Putin bought over a million bottles of wine amid import fear

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s administration has bought more than a million bottles of wine from Europe, according to the Moscow Times, but don’t worry — it won’t cause a shortage.

The paper reported that Russia’s presidential staff bought the wine amid fears the country could soon be banned from importing it.

But “there are vast amounts of the great wines of the world,” said Morrell & Company Wine’s Douglas Fauth, who questioned the validity of the report.

“There is nothing to be concerned about.”

Crush Wines’ Ian McFadden added, “I have not seen any kind of run on Russian people buying anything particular in any massive quantities.”

Wine is not on the list of Russia’s banned food imports.
