Jenny McCarthy is no stranger to provocative statements, but this time, she’s apologizing for one aimed at Hillary Clinton.

“Something happened last week that made me wake up and consider how I should be more mindful of my jokes. It’s one thing to say something ‘funny,’ but then to turn around and be a hypocrite is another thing,” McCarthy, 41, wrote in a blog post published on Splash.

While discussing allegations that Bill Clinton had a secret mistress nicknamed “Energizer,” the co-host of “The View” made an untoward remark about the former secretary of state.

“Well, maybe he has his girlfriends, and she has her girlfriends. You never know. Maybe they have an arrangement,” McCarthy said. Minutes later, McCarthy implored women “to stop ripping on each other and empower one another” instead. But it wasn’t until later that night that the contradictory nature of the two sentiments struck her.

“That night, as I lay in bed and reflected on my day, I realized I was a hypocrite,” she wrote. “How could I make a joke like that and then five minutes later preach about female empowerment? It makes me sad when I see women ripping on other women, and there I was making a joke about our possible first female president!”

The post ends with a mea culpa of sorts from McCarthy.

“I am a work in progress. I hope you will be patient with me as I continue to figure myself out and grow to be the example of female empowerment I always intend to be,” she wrote.

While she’s been axed from “The View,” McCarthy recently began hosting a weekly radio show, “Dirty, Sexy, Funny,” on SiriusXM.
