Bob Balaban — the Wes Anderson favorite who’s starring in Edward Albee’s upcoming revival of “A Delicate Balance” on Broadway with Glenn Close, John Lithgow and Martha Plimpton — likes when things go awry on stage.
“I love onstage mishaps,” Balaban told us at a performance of “Much Ado About Nothing” at the Delacorte Theater. “They’re like my favorite thing. They relax everybody, the audience feels like they’re in on a great thing, and I think they’re fantastic.”
Balaban recalled that once during a summer-stock show, “I was in a play where the scenery fell down [when] a breeze blew by backstage and someone hadn’t fastened something properly. It was one of the best performances!”
