City Council Speaker Melissa Mark- Viverito will officiate a wedding ceremony in Puerto Rico this weekend for her staffer Karina Claudio and wife Natalia Guerrero.
The couple were married in New York because Puerto Rico, where Viverito was born, doesn’t allow same-sex marriage.
A source close to her said, “As a supporter of marriage equality, it breaks Melissa’s heart that Puerto Rico still does not have full equality for the LGBT community. Melissa is thrilled to perform this ceremony . . . and hopes it will spur some action on the island.”
We’re told Viverito, who will speak at the ceremony, is paying her own way and is not bringing security.
