Is J. Lo’s Bronx concert a commercial ploy?

Is it a coincidence or is it a cynical commercial ploy?

It has been widely reported that on Wednesday Jennifer Lopez will be staging her first-ever concert in her home borough of The Bronx, free for 25,000 of her fans.

What has not been noted is that when the massive Throggs Neck Shopping Center opens next month, not far from the concert’s venue in Pelham Bay Park, among the retailers will be a phone store called Viva-Móvil by Jennifer Lopez.

“Lopez and her manager Benny Medina are very clever,” said Bronx-based writer Richard Turley. “The local TV station News 12 The Bronx regularly runs complaints that she only comes back to her old neighborhood to get street cred by shooting music videos here. She will deflect that just before she starts asking people to buy her merchandise. And the taxpayers will help subsidize the cost of mounting the show. Pure genius!”

Now if the singer/dancer can just soothe the residents of City Island, who are up in arms that the concert traffic will gridlock access to their idyllic fishing village, she will hit a grand slam.
