“Mad Men” creator Matthew Weiner reveals in a Paris Review interview before the show’s final season that the series is inspired by authors from T.S. Eliot to John Cheever.

“[Cheever] is in every aspect of ‘Mad Men,’ ” Weiner says, adding that Don Draper’s home on Bullet Park Road is an ode to Cheever’s 1969 novel “Bullet Park.”

“The children are ignored, people have talents they can’t capitalize on, everyone is selfish … or in some kind of delusion,” Weiner says. “Cheever’s stories work like TV episodes. He grabs you from the beginning.”
