‘Planet of the Apes’ star enjoys film’s success

Maybe Keri Russell is smiling because her new flick is going bananas at the box office.

A beaming Russell struts from her Manhattan pad as “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” has scored $4.1 million at the box office from limited late Thursday showings.

The long-legged stunner — tottering on black gladiator stilettos and wearing a black-leather miniskirt — plays one of a band of humans trying to survive on a planet being overrun by super-smart apes, led by Andy Serkis’ Caesar.

Here, Russell, 38, is on her way to a taping of “Late Night With Seth Meyers” to promote “Apes,” which is expected to rake in tens of millions more this weekend.

The former “Felicity” star — who is earning rave reviews for her work in the acclaimed FX spy drama “The Americans” — told CBS that shooting the “Apes” sequel was intense.

“There was enough serious hardcore monkeying going around that there didn’t need to be any funny monkeying going on,” she said.

The Post’s Kyle Smith gave the movie 3 ¹/₂ stars — and fans agreed, giving “Dawn” a 93 percent approval rating on the Web site Rotten Tomatoes.
