Carla Bruni complains about Sarkozy’s salary on secret tapes

Carla Bruni complained about her husband Nicolas Sarkozy’s salary when he was president of France and said she resented losing beauty and modeling contracts.

“I thought I was marrying a guy that made some money,” she is heard to say on tapes which were leaked to French media. “I had lucrative contracts and now nothing.”

Sarkozy made $330,000 a year as president, but Bruni is heard boasting about financing his life in a 2011 chat secretly recorded by Patrick Buisson, a political adviser who taped meetings after he was told he could not take notes.

Former model Bruni, 46, complained on the tapes about having to give up her career when she married “Super-Sarko” in 2008 and is heard telling him he’s a kept man. “I’m maintaining you,” she sneered.

Bruni adds that she planned to sign “anti-wrinkle” and beauty contracts like the ones Julia Roberts, Sharon Stone and Julianne Moore had after Sarkozy left office.

She has since released an album, staged a concert tour and signed ad deals with Bulgari and a wireless headphone company.

Sarkozy is also heard mocking his ministers on the tapes, where Buisson also refers to him as “the little guy” and “the dwarf” behind his back.

Sarkozy, who hopes to launch a new presidential bid, is said to be furious at the leak.

Meanwhile, further revelations are expected.
