Jill Abramson takes Greece trip with sister after firing from NYT

Former New York Times Executive Editor Jill Abramson describes trying “to put myself back together” after she was axed.

After admitting to Cosmopolitan, “I’m not ashamed of getting fired,” Abramson writes in Departures about escaping to Greece following her dismissal.

“Every year my sister, Jane O’Connor, and I take a trip together, just the two of us . . . This year our journey was especially essential for me, because I had just been fired . . . and needed the sisterly solace. It also seemed fitting to rush into the arms of Athena, the goddess of wisdom, war and justice to try to put myself back together.”

Of Greece, where tourism is creeping back after the country’s financial crisis, although there’s still 28 percent unemployment: “There is still wariness and uncertainty. Given my mood on this vacation, I liked the vibe.”
