CNN is standing by senior international correspondent Arwa Damon after she allegedly bit two medical professionals during a drunken fit at the US Embassy in Baghdad.
Damon apologized after she bit both EMTs on the forearm as they tried to treat her at the embassy on July 19.
The State Department launched an investigation, and the EMTs are now suing Damon and CNN for $2 million. But a CNN source said, “Arwa is very highly regarded at CNN.”
Another source who knows Damon told us, “She’s one of the best reporters in the Middle East. She’s been covering war since 2003, and that has to have been a strain on her.”
Damon was part of the CNN team that won a 2012 Emmy for their report “Revolution in Egypt: President Mubarak Steps Down.”
She covered the invasion and occupation of Iraq and the 2012 Benghazi attack.
Piers Morgan on Tuesday tweeted of Damon, “One of the very best, and most courageous correspondents in world news.”
A CNN spokesperson would only add, “We are aware of the lawsuit and are looking into it.”
