Maria Shriver’s mother, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, told her that brains are much more important than beauty.
“Luckily, there is so much more emphasis today . . . on being financially smart,” she said during a Q&A panel for her new HBO doc, “Paycheck to Paycheck: The Life & Times of Katrina Gilbert.”
“I would really emphasize being smart. People would come up to me when I was 16 and would say, ‘Oh you’re so pretty.’ My mother would say, ‘Your looks are gonna go — concentrate on your brain!’ ”
Also at the screening, about the daily challenges of a single mother, was Gloria Steinem, Jon Bon Jovi, Hoda Kotb, Sheila Nevins and Gayle King.
