Celebs bring down the house at Clive Davis’ talent contest

Everyone had to sing for his or her supper at Clive Davis’ annual talent contest, “Pound Ridge Idol.”

Some of the 75 guests — Aretha Franklin, Patti Lupone and Neil Sedaka — were disqualified from competition because they are already idols. But even Clive himself sang on Sunday night, warbling “The Party’s Over.”

Valerie Simpson brought everyone to their feet with a sizzling performance of the hit she wrote for Chaka Khan, “I’m Every Woman.”

Things kicked off Friday night as “The Man With the Golden Ears” shuttled his guests from cocktails on his 17-acre estate to the Inn at Pound Ridge, where new owners Jean-Georges Vongerichten and Phil Suarez and their wives joined them for dinner.

Of the 15 amateur contestants, The Post’s Broadway columnist Michael Riedel was one of three finalists with his powerful rendition of the Shirley Bassey classic “Diamonds Are Forever.”

Ultimately, it wasn’t a Grammy or Tony award winner but a beautiful young dentist, Jessie Cohen Schwartz, singing “9 to 5,” who went home with the coveted trophy.

Socialite Nikki Haskell, who sang “It’s Raining Men,” did better telling jokes Saturday on Comedy Night, when Aretha Franklin also killed it in front of Joan Rivers, actress Julie White and composer Michael Gore.

Davis, who is putting together a new album of Whitney Houston’s live performances, treated his guests to a video of Houston singing Gore’s “All the Man I Need” from the emotional 1991 Welcome Home Heroes Concert.

A fitting clip for Memorial Day, when heroes are not forgotten.
