Cynthia Rowley secretly taped the Met Gala

Designer Cynthia Rowley dared to secretly film Monday’s Costume Institute Gala without Anna Wintour’s approval.

Rowley videotaped the scene at the Met Ball from a GoPro camera stashed in her purse, shooting through a tiny hole, and posted a three-minute video to YouTube.

Rowley captures Hayden Panettiere, Jamie Tisch, Dita Von Teese, Lena Dunham and others prancing by on the red carpet and inside the Metropolitan Museum.

Sources told us neither Vogue nor the Met had “any idea” Rowley was recording the event.

A Met Gala attendee told us Wintour would not be amused, saying “There will be hell to pay for that.”

Rowley defended her actions, telling us: “Everyone was taking photos and videos throughout the night. I wanted to capture the night’s energy, glamour and spirit in what I thought was a playful, slightly irreverent and innovative way.”

Rowley’s rep added the designer was not paid by GoPro.
