It was only supposed to be for four episodes.
That’s what Jessica Paré thought when she first joined the cast of “Mad Men” as Megan, Don Draper’s secretary, in season four of the acclaimed AMC drama.
As it was, the role was a last chance for the 33-year-old, who traded her native Montreal for Hollywood in 2004 to star in the ill-fated “Jack & Bobby,” the actress, who poses for a sexy photo shoot in the April issue of Esquire, says.
“I was ready to move back to my parents’ place, ready to get a job at my friend’s bar back home and just pack it in,” she says. “I had nothing left to lose. I went into the audition thinking, This is it. If you don’t like it, that’s fine. Nobody else has.”
But something about her character resonated with the writers and audience, and three seasons later Paré’s still a part of the show, only now Megan has the bad luck of being the latest Mrs. Draper.
“Mad Men” returns for its seventh season on April 13.
