Aaliyah biopic on hold after Disney star is out

Disney star Zendaya Coleman isn’t “one in a million” anymore.

Coleman’s controversial casting in a Lifetime biopic about Aaliyah, the Grammy-nominated R&B singer whose life was tragically cut short when her plane crashed over the Bahamas in 2001, is over.

“We are sad Zendaya will no longer portray Aaliyah. Production is currently on hold,” Lifetime tweeted Sunday.

Social media went nuts with comments about how the actress “looks nothing like her.”

Some didn’t think the 17-year-old was mature enough to play the part, and others objected to her skin color.

Zendaya was born to a white mother and a black father.

Aaliyah’s family was apparently upset with Coleman portraying their beloved.

The biopic was set to start filming over the summer with a fall premiere and was supposed to “honor the legacy” of the artist, who died at 22.
