Filmmaker Casey Neistat snowboards around the city

I’ve seen plenty of cross-country skiers on the streets of New York this winter, but no snowboarders — until this past week.

When the snow stopped falling on Monday, filmmaker Casey Neistat (his movie “Daddy Long Legs” won the Cassavetes Award at the 2011 Independent Spirit Awards) grabbed his snowboard, tied a tow-rope to the back of his Jeep and raced around Manhattan.

“We started in the East Village, then the Lower East Side, then Uptown,” Neistat told me. “My friend Jack Coyne was driving, and my brother Dean Neistat was taking pictures.”

They reached Grant’s Tomb as well as the General Post Office without incident.

“The police didn’t give us a hard time,” said Casey. And no one got hurt.
