Philomena Lee speaks about battle with Ireland’s Supreme Court

The real-life Philomena: “I next battle with Ireland’s Supreme Court. I don’t live in Ireland anymore. Having left after Anthony was adopted, I now live in England. Ireland’s archaic and religious laws are more than one can bear. Following this Academy Award excitement, I return to England. To fight.

“It’s been so painful that I didn’t want to attend this film’s London screening. I’ve started a Web site. I’ve crossed my fingers in hopes my story helps others. I’ve contacted church authorities. I’ve been to the Pope. You see, these dreadful goings on still go on.

“Because years pass does not mean the ache goes away.”

Added her National Health Service administrator daughter Jane: “We’ll carry on with the Philomena project. We’re fund-raising now.”

Philomena: “Irish mothers are desperate for whereabouts of their children. In 1997 a reporter, compiling a record, discovered my awful experience also happened with 2,200 other babies. The information overwhelmed us.

“After the Guardian newspaper wrote about it, movie producers read the story, contacted the publisher and that’s how all this came about.

“But it is still happening, and will continue until the Irish Supreme Court is forced to change its laws.”

Asner sells his residence

Ed Asner just sold his 2,700-square-foot Studio City, Calif., house. Brick, exposed beams, French doors, three bedrooms, three baths, fireplace, cedar closet, patio, pool. Before the Earth cooled, bought for under half a mil, he got a few pennies less than $1.5 million.

Odds & ends

Meryl Streep at the Philharmonic . . . Todd English, when not busy with chicks, is busy with chefs. At his Paradise Island restaurant Olives, he told lawyer Michael Griffith he’s opening another pdq in NYC . . . Kylie Minogue, split with her longtime love, has romance on the brain — or other parts. Three new song titles bear the word “sex.”

Name games

Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne’s daughter, a beginning singer, only uses one name. Aimee. Maybe it’s because of other name issues. Her boyfriend’s tall, slim, handsome, blondish. Name? Mike. Second name? Spelled differently — but Osborn. We already got model Lauren Bush, who married Ralph Lauren’s son and is now Lauren Lauren — so coming up could be Aimee Osbourne Osborn.

Foot doc’s jock

Foot specialist Dr. Rock Positano: “Feet and ankles, shock absorbers, protect the body. At Derek Jeter’s age, this could affect precision and power to hit to the opposite field since imperfect ankle mechanics affect balance when driving the ball. Achilles tendon, the body’s largest tendon, takes most abuse, has least blood supply and least elasticity.”

All about Eva

Charter school champion Eva Moskowitz. Even Argentina shouldn’t cry for this Eva. She’s held other city posts. She craves the mayor’s job. Ask not how I know — I know. Sharp, tough, no matter what you dump on her, this lady figures scrutiny you! She loves the attention. Loves every little bitch of it.

Beneath my building, a galaxy of cables and wires link what’s miles below as a Second Avenue subway continues snail-like dredging. Also, a nearby skyscraper excavating down and building up is affecting all connections. Also, optics, fibers, tubes, browsers, electronic stuff, DSL, WiFi whatevers come together there. Also, don’t ask how, it’s somehow the heart of some bridge someplace. Result? No e-mail, no Internet, no iPads, no nothing one entire week. Verizon, Time Warner and Con Ed now live in.

Only in New York, kids, only in New York.
