Stephen Colbert celebrated his deal to succeed David Letterman as host of the “Late Show” over dinner with CBS chairman and CEO Les Moonves at Carbone on Friday night.
Colbert and wife Evelyn were joined by Moonves’ wife, Julie Chen, and another couple at the hot Greenwich Village restaurant.
According to fellow diners, Moonves toasted Colbert and said, “Welcome to the family,” before Colbert told funny stories of sleeping on the floor in a basement in Evanston, Ill., after graduating from Northwestern.
The group also got a laugh when trusts and estates attorney Herb Nass, celebrating the birthday of his wife, Jodi, went over to Moonves and thanked him for “making that decision” while pointing at Colbert.
