‘Duck Dynasty’ star reveals childhood sex abuse

After joining the cast of “Duck Dynasty” in Season 4, Lisa Robertson became part of a television phenomenon.

Now, she’s using her stardom to speak out about the sexual abuse she suffered at age 7.

As a little girl, I had an extended family member who had major drug and alcohol problems,” Lisa, who is married to Alan, explains in “The Women of Duck Commander: Surprising Insights from the Women Behind the Beards About What Makes This Family Work,” Time reports.

“Unfortunately, that person lived with my grandparents, so I had to see him often. Because I spent so much time at my grandparents’ house, I was easy prey for him. My earliest memory of being molested was at the age of seven when he started to do things to me, things that made me feel bad and dirty.”

The abuse continued into her teenage years and Lisa says it led her to believe that her “purpose in life was to please men.”

“What happened to me happens to many, many people,” she says, citing religion as a way to cope. “…I want all abuse survivors to know they have hope. They can have hope for complete healing, hope for great relationships, and hope for a wonderful life, free from the lingering effects of the trauma they have suffered.”

The book, co-written by Kay, Korie, Missy and Jessica, also combines parenting and relationship tips with tough topics like alcohol abuse and marital struggles.
