Edie Brickell says Paul Simon ‘broke her heart’ before spat

Edie Brickell accused hubby Paul Simon of doing something that “broke her heart” during the couple’s alcohol-fueled domestic spat, according to police documents.

Notes by officers who responded to the music super-couple’s New Canaan home Saturday night shed only slightly more light on the brouhaha that led to a 911 call and police response to Brookwood Lane.

The police report didn’t detail exactly what Simon did that “broke her heart,” according to the Stamford Advocate newspaper.

Brickell, 47, had a “strong odor of alcohol on her breath” while telling cops that Simon “was acting like a spoiled baby by calling 911 and that he did not care about their children,” according to police.

The “What I Am” singer also said her 72-year-old hubby cannot “handle being criticized in any manner and became confrontational with her,” the police report showed.

Simon suffered “a superficial cut to his ear” while Brickell had “a small bruise on her right wrist,” according to police.

When the first police officer arrived at the couple’s home Saturday, he could hear “the occupants of the residence loudly screaming at each other,” according to the report.

Brickell told cops this wasn’t the first time they’ve had a physical altercation, but she declined to elaborate.

She asked an officer to feel a lump on the back of her head but didn’t respond when asked if that was Simon’s work.

“She  just became emotional and continued to say she would never jeopardize their children’s well-being,” the report stated.

Brickell and Simon have been married since 1992 and have lived in the tony Connecticut community since 2002. Their home is gated with a 7-foot barbed-wire fence.

They have three kids together, between the ages of 16 and 20.

Brickell’s mom, Larry Linden, was at their house when the fight broke out on Saturday, according to the police report.
