“Mad Men” fans are known to obsessively search TV screens for hidden symbols and references buried in the show.

After one recent scene involved stars Harry Hamlin and Allan Havey having an important — but inaudible — conversation behind glass, TV blogs nerded out, saying it was all a shot-by-shot re-creation of a scene from Stanley Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey.”

The Post’s Steven Greenstreet reports that the scene had some Shakespeare thrown in, too. When he asked Hamlin if he was reciting scripted lines or improvising, the actor revealed, “No one knows this. But we were reciting the first scene in ‘Richard III.’ ”

Strangely, Hamlin’s rep contradicted this, saying, “Sorry to disappoint . . . but that was not Shakespeare.”
