Michael Strahan said he was surprised to read the news that he is joining “Good Morning America” – but admitted he is in talks to join the top rated ABC show.
On his show “Live with Kelly and Michael” Wednesday, Strahan said he had been in talks with “GMA”, and hopes to appear a few days a week on the ABC morning show, but would continue to serve as co-host of his daytime show with Kelly Ripa.
“The big news is that I’m going to be on ‘GMA’ now. But it’s somewhat surprising!” Strahan said on Wednesday, after news broke on Tuesday night about his talks with GMA execs.
“Like I went and had a meeting and talked about the possibility of doing something there, and then I went to see the new movie with Samuel L. Jackson last night, ‘Captain America,’ And then I got out of the screening and I’m looking at my messages and the next thing I know, I’m on ‘Good Morning America’! What’s going on here? But we’ve talked…”
“So are you going to do it?” Ripa pressed.
View video“I don’t know!” Strahan said, and added, “You know what, I read the papers, I am! But this [‘Live with Kelly & Michael’] is what I do, this is me. This is my home right here, like, I love you. So no matter what, I go nowhere. This is my love. You are my love. This is my job. So don’t worry anybody. I’m not going anywhere. I’m right here on “Live,” Okay?”
Ripa said she wants to know how many cups of coffee to have ready for him.
“It would have to be smart about it. I don’t think I could do it every day. I’m already busy enough!” Strahan conceded.
“If I kept on doing it when football season rolls around, you’d be over there talking and I’d be like this [starts snoring]. I feel like playing football, after 15 years of that, everything I do now I do out of enjoyment, because I’ve been beat up and felt like ‘I can’t do that anymore’, but I am not sore after the show today.”
