Lice outbreak latches on to child stars of ‘Matilda’

Broadway hit “Matilda the Musical” — which features at least 16 kids as its stars — had an outbreak of lice behind the scenes, Page Six has exclusively learned.

A Broadway source tells us that “at least six of the children” in the show have lice, and producers are itching to get the outbreak under control.

“Several of the children have lice,” said our source. “The production is in chaos because they’re trying to keep it a secret from other actors and even some of the other children.”

The source added “a checkup” was being performed on the cast Tuesday.

The show, based on the book by Roald Dahl, features four different pint-size stars who rotate into the lead role of Matilda, as well as a cast of other kids. A rep for the show confirmed that critters had been found, but said the lice situation is under control, telling us: “It happens at a lot of shows, and is not uncommon with school- age kids in general. It has been dealt with.”

Another Broadway source joked, “This is the worst outbreak Broadway has seen since the original company of ‘Hair’ got crabs.”
