‘Everybody’s Fine’ premiere is bittersweet

Kate Beckinsale, Sam Rockwell and Drew Barrymore play Robert De Niro‘s kids in “Everybody’s Fine” — but he has no intention of making them regulars at the family dinner table. “I have enough trouble with my own kids,” the star joked at the premiere. At the Tribeca Film Institute benefit event, Beckinsale’s daughter, Lily Mo Sheen, who has a part in the picture, joined Mom on the red carpet, while Barrymore was overheard calling De Niro “Daddy D.”

Meanwhile, during the movie’s introduction, Miramax honcho Daniel Battsek noted, “It’s a bittersweet night.” (Miramax is being moved out of New York and all but dismantled by parent Disney.) At least, Battsek said, Miramax’s final movie was upbeat. “It could’ve been ‘There Will Be Blood’ or ‘Gone Baby Gone,’ ” he cracked. De Niro, noting that Miramax founders Harvey and Bob Weinstein were Tribeca movie-making pioneers, grew sentimental: “Miramax and Tribeca are synonymous with New York and the arts, which are a deep party of the city, to me they are the heart.”
