Klieman went into overdrive to weigh in on Kennedy

Rikki Klieman follows the Boy Scouts motto: Be prepared!

The lawyer and CBS News legal expert, who’s also the wife of NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton, was staying at the Four Seasons Hotel in Boston on business when she awoke Thursday at 6:40 a.m. — and saw she had received more than 20 messages while the ringer on her cellphone was turned off.

Producers at “CBS This Morning” wanted to put her on-air at 7:30 a.m. to discuss Kerry Kennedy’s drugged-driving trial in Westchester County, which Klieman has been following closely.

“I was in my flannel pajamas, with my hair in rollers, but I said ‘Absolutely!’ ” she later told producers in New York.

Klieman, an admitted adrenaline junkie, quickly got dressed, grabbed her makeup and jewelry and sprinted two blocks to get a cab. She did her makeup en route, and arrived at the studio just in time to catch her breath before the satellite uplink.

“It’s a good thing I didn’t take an Ambien,” Klieman said.
