Katherine Heigl ‘really, really, really’ wants back on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’

Katherine Heigl is eating a slice of humble pie, four years after insulting “Grey’s Anatomy” producers and two years after leaving the show of her own volition. The actress now says she would “really, really, really” like to return to the show as her character Izzie Stevens.

“I’ve told them I want to,” Heigl tells E! News, when asked if she would be open to returning to the show that made her a household name. “I really, really, really want to see where [Izzie] is. I just want to know what happened to her and where she went and what she’s doing now. My idea is that she actually like figures it out, and finds some success and does really well in a different hospital. She was always floundering you know, and so she was always one step behind the eight ball and I want to see that girl take some power back.”

HEIGL COULD HAVE BEEN AMERICA’S SWEETHEART BUT ‘THEN I OPENED MY MOUTH’

But Heigl has learned her lesson about trying to tell the show’s writers what to do. In 2008, Heigl infamously pulled out of Emmy consideration for the role, after winning Best Supporting Actress the year before.

“I did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination,” she said, in a comment that was interpreted as a swipe at the show’s writers. The comment soured many fans on Heigl.

But now she is trying to rehab her image. In December, Heigl told Elle magazine, “I look at some of what I had to say, and I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I would tell myself to shut up too.'”

Today, Heigl has perhaps gone overboard in showing her admiration for show creator Shonda Rhimes and the show’s other writers. After revealing her desire to revisit Izzie, Heigl said she didn’t know if her wish would be granted.

“I don’t know,” she said. “Being a showrunner and being a writer of a TV series like that is so complicated. I mean, she’s got how many characters? There’s a lot and so she’s balancing about 40 different storylines. So I don’t know if it fits into their vision for this season or next.”
