Hotel heiress and socialite Nicky Hilton is reportedly engaged to her banker boyfriend James Rothschild after a romantic proposal in Italy.
According to Us Weekly, Rothschild got down on one knee and popped the question to long-time girlfriend Hilton while on holiday in Lake Como, Italy, over the weekend.
The pair have been dating since meeting at a mutual friend’s wedding back in 2011 and were apparently in Europe to celebrate their anniversary.
The idyllic setting of Lake Como made the perfect place to put a ring on it, but Rothschild’s romantic gesture was anything but spontaneous.
A source told Us Weekly the European banking fortune heir secretly flew from his London home to Los Angeles recently to ask Hilton’s parents for her hand in marriage.
“He took her out on a boat into the middle of Lake Como and he proposed, got down on one knee and everything,” Us Weekly quoted the source as saying.
“It was incredibly romantic and beautiful.”
The bride-to-be and her beau will now enjoy a road trip through Europe before returning home to the US to celebrate her happy news with friends and family, including sister Paris.
Hilton has been chronicling her holiday adventures on social media. She and Rothschild have already visited several destinations, including Milan and Rome.
The fashion designer is a regular fixture on the social circuit and granddaughter of Hilton Hotels founder Conrad, while Rothschild is heir to a large family banking fortune.
Before meeting Rothschild, Hilton was in a four-year relationship with David Katzenberg, but the pair went their separate ways in mid-2011.
